I reproduced this FTBFS bug today with a freshly updated hardy sbuilder.
However, version 1.80-1 from Debian builds fine. Please sync the new
version from Debian (unstable).
There are some feature enhancements/modifications in the new version

Reinstalling with the kubuntu 7.10 alternate cd and using the restricted nvidia
drivers fixed my problem.
This is a secondary pc so a reinstall was not a problem.
The only thing I did with this pc was install a different Nvidia card. Maybe
that messed up something.
I went from a 32mb Nvidia tnt

I also upgraded from gutsy to hardy, glipper no longer working. Removed
the .glipper dir, and it was possible to add the applet, but clicking on
it still crashes glipper every time, as long as I didn't have anything
in my clipboard that glipper noticed. After loading the applet,

A bit of correction that might be important: when switching desktops,
only the FOCUSED window flashes black, and then the desktop, both once.
With Expose activated, desktops and windows flash randomly, BUT not
windows that have been resized with the Shelf plug-in. Odd.
