I have been able to reproduce it,
It happened on LiveCD, I started installer get to step 3 then launch pidgin and
click the button to add an account.
So I launched sudo python-dbg /usr/bin/jockey-gtk like you asked, here is the

combined with xserver-xgl breaks gnome-settings-daemon. Anyway I
