Same problem here, upon login numlock light is on, but numlock is really
off. It's then necessary to press numlock 3 times to get it to the
correct state of numlock light on and numlock really on. Unfortunately
the setting is not remembered upon logout.

The device names are not the only problem. It seems evdev support is broken in
the current X.org:
Even if I get my mouse working with evdev, it is also recognized by the
xorg-input infrastructure, so all events are received double. And the
xorg-input drivers do not recognize a couple of buttons

aha, a cursory look at my as well shown by hirak99 see the timeouts
[x11_sync_server_dpms_settings] gpm-dpms.c:130 (06:53:15): Syncing DPMS

no wonder we are not able to do the same. Looking at xset's man page it
