I'm fairly certain that I've been bitten by this as well. I have a dual
head radeon card. When enabling the secondary display, both the upper
and lower panels switch from my primary monitor to the secondary
monitor. I am running an up-to-date Hardy i386 development release as of
22 March 2008.

What's interesting is the chip on the laptop is bcm4312 (looking at it)
but lspic reports finding Broadcom 4310 rev 1. It could be that
"unknown pci bridge" is really the problem, that lspci also reports,
perhaps.

i updated my ubuntu 7.10 via apt-get dist-upgrade to the 8.04 beta.
The upgrade process returns no errors, reboot due kernel change works also fine.
But my savage videodriver enables no 3d, after the 7.10 it was working out of
the box, so i do not really know what

Unfortunately I do not have a hardy installation at the moment. Thus I cannot

ok, thanks for the link. i see that the real problem comes from
individual applications.
however, the gtk file chooser should at least be consistent with the
behaviour of nautilus, which means (at least for files ending in ~) they
should show/hide when show hidden files is checked/unchecked
