I got this bug when I upgraded my AMD64/Dual Core (Asus MB/NVidia grpx)
system to 7.10. It wasn't there before in the previous release.
After some fiddling around and reading the threads here, I tested
various options for getting rid of it. I eventually added the
"ec_intr=0" option to the kernel,
as info for the devs:
xbacklight doesnt work here, since the laptop uses a nvidia gfx card.
but smartdimmer works perfectly.

This looks like a hardware issue. Could you please choose at boot memory test
and let it run. If you got errors there is a serious hardware problem like
corrupted mem or something like that.
Do you have another operating system to recheck if this problem happens too?

I don't know what "ec_intr=0" exactly is, but I googled it, and it seems
to have something todo with ACPI. Can someone further explain?

This is also a problem in Hardy. I'm marking it as such. I've tried
two different networks and it just keeps asking for the password over
and over if it's WEP.
