Hitting escape to skip checking isn't the function of e2fsprogs.
Maybe this is an upstart/initscripts thing? I haven't tried using Hardy
yet, so I'm not sure what you are referring to here, but I can tell you
for sure that e2fsprogs doesn't pay attention to the escape
character

After installing to the harddrive, the resolution problem now seems to be
corrected. But I don't know if that's a result of me playing with xorg.conf or
not.
Either way, the liveCD has issues. Whether or not the problem is fixed
on installation I can't be clear on.

According to the KDE-Bugtracker, this is a Qt 4.3-bug and is fixed in
Qt4.4. The bug appeared in 4.0.2 since the Panel-config has been
backported from the KDE 4.1 trunk - now using the broken SVG rendering.
So it sounds like it won't fix
Our plan for hardy is to remove python-xml entirely, which should solve
this too. See Bug 199014 for details.
