I haven't been able to reproduce this in my tests. Could you please tell
me exactly what you chose at every step, starting from the CD boot menu?
If you're using a language other than English, then just give me the
text from the language you're using - don't worry about translating back
to English.
Oh, I only need what you chose up to right after the keyboard selection
step early on in the installer, not all the way through.

Are you running compiz? Do you see any error messages on the console? I
get some blank windows with compiz & nvidia, and have encountered
problems with intel. Try using '-defaultvisual' option for mathematica

Here's what happened to me. Some unexplained phenomenon hammered my swap
partition, so it lost its UUID. My system simply booted without incident
or warning -- but also without any swap!
mount and swapon, run from command line, complained that the UUID was
invalid.

The Xorg.0.log file is attached. It does look like it's using the intel
driver now. With the intel driver and the reconfigured xorg.conf file

Now, it's harder to trigger again but happens sometimes. I can't mention

Well, I'm not so sure about that but if you have moved this to xserver-
xorg-video-intel there should be "intel" module in kernel but lsmod
gives only i915 and AFAIR this is in xserver-xorg-video-i810 (?). This
is probably do to entry in xorg.conf in Driver section i810, but this is
done automagicl

Well, seems to be a dist-upgrade problem then.
It is nice to know that it works for you now and that there is an easy
workaround.
But in general a user upgrading from Gutsy should not have to install
another search-"engine". I think this needs to be fixed.
