My wireless interface (eth0) was configured using network-manager, with the
wired interface (eth0) is disabled. But I also get the "no currently active
network device, won't activate VPN" error in syslog whenever I try activating
VPN through network-manager.
A work-around seems to be to renam

I too am having this issue on a fresh install of Gutsy. I got around
this somewhat by changing default device the keyboard controls to the
"PCM" option in sound preferences. It would still be nice to have a

I can confirm this defect in Gutsy - I am having exactly the same issue.
I have noted that it only occurs if I boot the system with a disc in the
drive. If I reboot, remove the disc and boot up again, the issue is
resolved and I can start using the drive again.

still happen but very very rarely. During bug lifetime many packages
were changed, and as I try to be most up-to-date (running hardy, daily
updated), information you request (esp. .xsession-errors) may not be
helpful anymore. But

I've had some issues with KDE and Compiz and I've stopped using Compiz
as my window manager, however when I last tried Compiz and KDE then I
did not see this particular problem.

thank you for quick reply.
We found, that this bug can be reproduced only with some type of files
(for example: *.dll file, *.exe or *.jar files *.zip files)
text files are working correctly
Note from me:
This looks that some (magic, or something similiar) looks into content of file.
And
I think in debian it is possible to to choose a local apt-proxy on
install but in ubuntu it is not, may it has some reasons and is
disabled???
