If it were like that, the "Empty trash" button would not work, because it could

However, after reading it carefully I have come to the conclusion that
this bug is not the same as bug #105644.
Bug #105644 is about update-manager showing a number of updates that is
TOO HIGH due to further dependencies being co

mentioned. To begin with, I don't have a Surround setting in
gnome-volume-control, only Master and PCM (for the default HDA Intel device).

I just had this happen with Hardy Alpha 4 during tonight's updates.
If I do Show Menubar, a menu bar appears with nothing on it. The
hotkeys don't spawn a new tab or new window, although I can from the
context menu.
