With a Fresh Gutsy install and a PCMCIA RT2500 card , I had the same
problem trying to join adhoc non encrypted networks.
Actually network Manager failed to put the card in adhoc mode.
WICD could not do it as well.
But doing manually with "iwconfig wlan mode ad-hoc" worked

/etc/init.d/powernowd contains just a line reading OPTIONS="-q".
Everything else is comments. I have not modified this file afaict.
How do I figure out where and why the script fails? I can not see
anything during the boot up sequence since the splash screen eats all
the output.

It is possible to compile ffmpeg with AMR support, but even then Totem
doesn't register that ffmpeg has AMR support. Is there a way to produce
the gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg apckage with AMR support?

The iwl3945 driver version in hardy is 1.1.17 from September 2007,
meanwhile there is 1.2.23, I manually installed this newest version from
