As of yet I've been unable to reproduce these crashes on my laptop but
have seen the following when booting the iso:
mptspi: disagrees about version of symbol mptscsih_io_done
mptspi: Unknown symbol mptscsih_io_done

I had a similar experience using Synaptic Package Manager to add the two
packages openoffice.org-dev and openoffice.org-dev-doc to a relatively
new Ubuntu 7.10. First time, the /var/log/apt/term.log showed 1434

the /scripts/local-top/mdadm script is broken in initrd-
img-2.6.20-16-386. My boot partition is /dev/sda1 and I'm using lvm on
top of a mirror on /dev/sda3 and /dev/sdb1. I get dumped into the
busybox shell on boot and have to run
mdadm --assemble /dev/md0 /dev/sda3 /dev/s
I think vpnc must be run under root (sudo vpnc) - does that fix your
problem (Permission denied would suggest that)

When the "use live information" (not the exact wording) is selected, the
test connection button is greyed out so I couldn't, so I continued on
with the installation.
Subsequent installation (after the bug post) worked if the live option
was not selected and all backend connection info

When I had windows 98 & also XP, the computer would run with no lines of
static on it (mutiple horizontal white lines jumping all over the
place). Now since installing ubuntu, there is a million zillion lines of
white static. If I use knoppix "live" CD, there is no problem.

Well, maybe it does, but I'm not the one running vpnc, it is run
automatically by kvpnc - I don't know how to fix that. When I run vpnc I
always do it with admin rights (sudo vpnc ). Any
suggestions? Or should I instead run kvpnc with admin rights?

It might be worth noting that I use a dual head setup with xrandr, but
it makes no difference if the external monitor is hooked up to the
laptop or not-- the laptop improperly renders the text at its native
resolution of 1400x1050 when using 100dpi.
