As an added piece of information, my 64-bit Gutsy was running without
any sign of the freeze, with ATI R300 card and the 8.37.6 fglrx driver,
on an AMD 3200+ single-core chip. No compiz, no xgl.
Then I increased my RAM from 2 x 256MB to 256MB + 1GB, and the freezes
started - random time, no appare

I just tested with Hardy Heron Alpha2 LiveCD. The bug still exists.
On Gutsy it fails while suspending. On Hardy it managed to suspend, but
resuming failed - fans turned on, screen got lit, but nothing else
worked, had to hard reset it.

Menus in X grab the pointer so they can detect clicks outside of their
window to know when to close, thus you cannot do anything _but_ interact
with the menu when it's open. Try it, you can't use any other keyboard
shortcuts or multimedia keys even when you're not running compiz. This

Correction: after boot I have to use ifdown THEN ifup because the
interface is supposedly "already configured" although it is NOT working
or showing up in ifconfig. I can reproduce this using networking
restart. It only seems to work (although bug 123773 shows up) when I use
ifup or ifconfig up.

I just had quite a fight with a clean install of 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon and
applying the updates makes Firefox no longer start.
Turned out the solution was to mark the Firefox related packages to be

This "might" be related to a data-loss bug where F-Spot is trashing
peoples photos in some circumstances. Their error output features the
"(Application transferred too few scanlines)" which is characteristic of
this bug's manifestation.

This may be related to an upstream bug in GTK... I've opened Ubuntu Bug
#179154
The upstream is http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=494667 and it
relates to the "Application transferred too few scanlines" you're seeing
in your output.

this is a known aligment issue. A fix should be available soon. btw,
firefox-3.0 should be fixed already (in hardy).
