I am running the latest Gutsy 386 kernel (Linux 2.6.22-14-386 #1 Tue Dec 18
07:34:24 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux) but the noise is still present. (I was
previously using the 386 kernel)
I have also fixed "sudo hdparm -B254 /dev/sda".

I removed the symbolic link /usr/local/lib/libfreetype.so.6, which is
added by the package libfreetype6. Should this symbolic link perhaps be
removed from libfreetype6? Or perhaps only the path is wrong
(/usr/local/lib/libfreetype.so.6 -> libfreetype.so.6.3.2, note: no path
to libfreetype.so.6.3.2)

I was downloading a two-part divx overnight so I left the computer on.
When returning the mouse worked so I assumed that everything was okay. I
opened one of the divx files by double-clicking, which opened gmplayer.
I got this error statement; Error!: Could not open/iniatializ

Addition to the last post, I used Upgrade Manager to initiate the
upgrade. The output I posted was based on request Kjell Braden request
in Bug #154125, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-
panel/+bug/154125/comments/2 but I now understand is not helpful to the
case. I do have a screens
I confirm too.
I add symlinks and epiphany run.

Solved with Ubuntu 7.10, I installed the ati proprietary driver with
aiglx support and enabled manually compiz! Anyway, the problem seems to
happen with the unsopported plugin for compiz!
