Why not simply sync the package? I tried building the unmodified package
from Debian in a hardy pbuilder (amd64) and it builds successfully.
BTW: your changelog mentions xlibs-dev but your changes to
debian/control don't show it.

I am experiencing a very similar problem in Hardy, where only second
double-clicked image actually open EOG. I mean, if I double-click an
image file nothing happens, but if I doulble click it (or any other
image) again, EOG opens alright.
If I double-click a third image nothing happens, but the fo
there is a checksum mismatch for the file which is downloaded from
adobe.
