i just purchased a lenovo r61 (intel duocore) that has an alps touchpad
(checked hw manager in xp to confirm this) that gets recognized as a

(2.0.1.09.dfsg.1-0.2) from http://packages.debian.org/etch/python-opengl
and generated a debian package from theses sources. When I downgrade to

I found it changed my time after resuming from hibernate overnight.
My timezone was lost since upgrading to Gutsy. I've reset it to

Well why don't you get an Ubuntu Gutsy LiveCD and try doing some heavy
transfers on that other Thinkpad to see if the problem persists?
You could also try using an FC7 LiveCD on the Thinkpad that locks up and
see if the problem persists to be sure if it's really Ubuntu's fault.

I am new to ubuntu/linux, so please bear with me :). I too am having
this (or a very similar) problem.
System:
Ubuntu 7.10, fully updated
ATI Mobility 9700 with ATI restricted driver
Dell Inspiron 9100 (3.0 ghz desktop processor)
1gb RAM

Using an external USB drive with ext3 filesystem. After awhile it won't
mount, so I check dmesg and see that it's complaining of excessive
mounts without a filesystem check. (I already filed Bug #134425 saying I
wish Gnome would report filesystem errors.)

I'm having the same problem. gdebi-kde eats about 640MB of system memory
when installing. On systems with 512MB, gdebi-kde crashes.

from repository, but downloading .tar.gz from eclipse website, and untar
it into /usr/lib (for example).
I did it on the desktop and laptop computers... waiting for the bug to

Bruce Allen says that 254 should disable power management while the
behaviour of 255 is unpredictable. Strangely not only hdparm's man page
but also doing the command tells us that you should use 255 to disable
power management :
