I have the same bug. Gutsy (GDM) tries to XDMCP to Gutsy. See the relevant
/var/log/syslog messages on the client side attached. The server side does not
log anything to /var/log/syslog. Changing to "simple" ("einfach" in german)
interface has no effect. BTW, I use the "fglrx" driver.

My previous comment is wrong, disabling the "Legacy Fullscreen"
workaround and restarting (I restarted completely, reboot) made the bug
go away. Previous attempts to just restart compiz using #compiz
--replace & didn't have that result.

I tried to upgrade libqt3-mt when a power outage hit my computer unexpectedly.
After booting I again tried to upgrade libqt3-mt which didn't work because it
told me the DEB file was broken. I had to manually delete the file in the cache
Can confirm this, as well as note that it not only consistently crashes
during large NFS transfers, but can also drop the connection with ANY
heavy network activity. Using stock 1420n from Dell upgraded to gutsy.

I've switched to an Inspiron 1720 which has an 8600M GT chipset -
previously I had been using an Inspiron 8600 with a 64Mb GeForce 5200.
Compiz.real is behaving itself so I guess the problem is related to the

Same problems here... if I boot with acpi on,
I can change brightness only using the nvidia-settings. Other hotkeys
work fine (Fn sound up/down for example, or switch on off wireless).
I have the flickering with all gl applications so maybe its related to the

I found a solution:
first edit the following file:
sudo vim /etc/usplash.conf
there change the default resolution, i.e. 1024 and 768
my file looks like this:

Same happens here.
All other open files dialogs are correct till now, except when choosing a new
wallpaper.
I have all my wallpapers in a mounted disk and is very annoying.

I'm experiencing the same behavior with Sun Java plugin 1.5.0_03-b07 on Firefox
2.0.0.8.
It used to work just fine, but after my Feisty -> Gutsy upgrade the Java

To avoid the problem:
Make sure to let the backroung fading animation complete before actually
logging out.
An easy fix to implement would be to grey out all buttons on the logout
dialog and only make them sen

OK, now I'm truly embarrassed. I must have clicked the divider between
