Oh, I managed to resolve the problem.
Aparently this behaviour came from the fact that I had installed the
Elisa media center from Fluendo's Ubuntu archives, and the elisa-extra
package installed the python-coherence package as well. With this
package installed, Rhythmbox aparently would not start
and also here with Kopete 0.12.7 and KDE 3.5.8 and with MSN protocol. Jabber is
fine.

I have the exact same problem on the same hardware (same laptop model).
The problem existed initially in feisty as well, but vanished after some
time. (I thought it was fixed in the Intel driver.) Now it seems to have
reappeared in gutsy.

You certainly know the inner workings better than I do, but I'm not
convinced this is actually glxinfo. Running "glxinfo" from a terminal
produces no segfault whatsoever (output attached), while running
"compiz.real --replace" leads to a system freeze (with no output at all)

I can confirm this. Since the last update of kdelibs, Kopete crashes
when trying to connect to MSN. ICQ, Jabber and AIM work just fine.
Unfortunately, there's no crash log for Koepte in /var/crash. Sorry.

To make this clearer.
1. If I have to profiles names A and B.
2. If profile A is running, and I run the command "firefox -P B", a new firefox
window(not tab) will open under the current running profile, i.e. B.
Unlike marcw mentioned, -no-remote can help if profile B is not running.
However, if

has a regex for *.ppd[.gz] which cannot be turned to *, so PPDs in eg
filename.gz archives cannot be used without decompressing and renaming
manually.
