I'm experiencing this problem and have gnome-power-manager enabled in
the session box. It affects the gnome-panel applet as well as the awn
power button applet. It appears to me that gnome-session-save is
hanging. I have a strace of that script running that ends in a kill

I was happy too seeing a java-browser-plugin on AMD64 so I gave icedtea
java a try instantly. But neither the "normal" java, nor the plugin
worked for me - I always got a crash dump.
It would be great if there is a working java-plugin for amd64 soon. Java
