Tim's patch is certainly a big improvement if you set idle dimming to
disabled. No more annoying dimming when you don't want it. Except when
you open the gnome-power-manager preferences. Then it does seem to dim
the display for some reason.
Also, this bug appears to be a duplicate of bug #133057.
Discussing the settings will not make the bug fixed faster, that's not a
security issue if you type your password in random occasion without
looking on screen where your cursor is, that's annoying bug though,

After install ubuntu 64 bit edition, on a brand new install, X failed to
start properly. All I saw was completely garbled nonsense. After ctrl-
alt-F1 to a console I edited xorg.conf and added the resolution of my
first monitor 1920x1200 and then restarted X. I could then s

After discovering that I had the same problem with another printer, I
tried with kpdf, and printing is perfect. Evince has very bad quality
when printing pdfs.

In Gutsy Beta, daily updated, I can reproduce the crash only when compiz
is enabled and gstreamer is configured to use xv output. Without compiz
or with compiz / non-xv output, visualization works fine. I also have an

0 to 11%.
I tried also with newly created user, and it did not change anything.

Until that gets fixed, is it at least possible to stop kernel upgrades
from overwriting the drivers I install? This is really annoying. Not
only do I need to work around the problem by compiling alsa drivers
myself, but on top of that, every kernel "upgrade" breaks everything
again.
