After upgrading to from 7.04 to gutsy, I couldn't boot with 2.6.22-12 and -13.
I only got repeated messages scrolling on the screen: 'device-mapper: table:

Workaround: I found that installing unsupported package 'hibernate'
gives laptop-mode-tools the file it required /usr/sbin/hibernate
however I wonder why it doesn't use the the gnome way to hibernate the
laptop (as I could make use of suspend / hibernate without an issue
before installing hibernat
... but it's unstable. I can crash X by doing

I can confirm this bug with versions previous to Gutsy Tribe 5, however
as of Ubuntu Gutsy Beta this issue seems to be fixed and laptop modes
starts up without issues.
Please note that advice by Tom Gillam unfortunately did not last over
the reboot of the machine and needed to be applied every tim
fix released inside Ubuntu Gutsy Beta

single setting [system>preferences>removable drives and
media>storage>mount removable media when inserted]. Deselecting this

ndiswrapper -m creates an alias i.e. the module is being loaded when wlan0 is
used. That means that you have to use wlan0. If you haven't configured your
wlan card to connect at boot (i.e. auto wlan0 in /etc/network/interfaces) it
won't load at boot, but when doing a sudo ifup wlan0

The similar story with Compaq nw8240.
Nor hibernate nor suspend works. Before upgrading to Gutsy hibernate works.
Now system makes screen black and I see HDD works about 2 seconds. After I can
switch to a text mode (by alt-F1) but can not type in anything. I need to power
off the laptop manually.
