Brian, it turns out it should work if you set the GConf key as root.
That's not the intended behavior, only a workaround.
The long term fix would probably be to use PolicyKit or a similar
solution, but it's not something we can do for gutsy.

NB: The resolution of this bug caused bug #124993 as the gconf settings
are now read as root instead of as $user.
The long term fix is probably to move to PolicyKit. Alternatively, if

Note that the Debian maintainer is the upstream author. I'm quite

To Modred: The problem is that if you want to use "PUT-HERE-YOUR-
DESIRED-LOCATION" directory, you'll need to change _both_ /etc/cups
/cups-pdf.conf _and_ /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.cupsys files to point to
the _same_ location. The "PUT-HERE-YOUR-DESIRED-LOCATION" directory has
to be a real directory
