I have exactly this same problem on a (Gutsy) HP nc8430 laptop, so it is
not limited to Dell? My laptop has the Mobility X1600 Radeon.
So the lappy never suspends/hibernates properly.

control the brightness from within Kubuntu at all, despite the fact that

sorry about the delay in the response, before login gdm, press ctrl + alt +
F1, and you'll have access to a console, from where you can obtain the required
information, as Gareth said, it's probably a duplicate of bug #144760, but
without more information it's really hard to be sure.
This is not an issue any more! I have Gutsy now and the printer works
fine. The only thing which is wrong now is that even though I have
selected A4 for example Eye Of Gnome wants to print Letter instead.

You need to apply the patch I submitted (comment before your last). It
replaces the use of the Python function str (which uses ASCII) with the
funciton unicode (which can handle unicode characters).

I've marked two duplicates for this bug. The thing is that 'screens and
graphics' with a 'plug 'n play' screen incorrectly writes the xorg.conf.
I'll attach the xorg.conf of a clean gutsy beta live cd boot, and the
xorg.conf after using screens and graphics to set the resolution to
1280x800. I'll t
