system is loading, I have a kernel panic and I have to restart manually. This
happens also when system is started and I insert an external USB hard drive.

This is due to gimp-libcurl or gimp-gnomevfs not being installed.
Since "Open Location" is a basic feature, gimp should *depend* instead of
*recommend* gimp-libcurl | gimp-gnomevfs.
It's important to have libcurl first, since gnomevfs depends on gnome
libs, and wouldn't fit KDE users.

I also confirm this problem under Metacity(I have G965, blacklisted at compiz
:( ). It occurs even after turning tracker off.

The live CD will boot if you "safe graphics mode", and will boot fine
after an install. You'll then need to install the Nvidia drivers, either
through the restricted drivers manager, or by following the instructions

Okay Tormod,
I took xorg.conf completly out.
The system reaches the desktop. The Xorg.0.log says me it initializes the
savage driver.
One problem is new now: On every start Gnome reports a program crash. It
is about the displayconfig-gtk. I send this report to the Ubuntu team.

Ralf, no point in hiding the applet, seeing as though it doesn't let you
switch users with yourself. Go and have a look — with only one user on
the system, you click it, and the only dropdown menu item that pops up
is your own name, which is disabled.
