You need to have the package "openoffice.org" installed. Not only parts
of it like "open-office.org-writer" or "open-office.org-calc". On my

This is apparently a bug in the version of java shipped with(in) matlab.
AWT_TOOLKIT="Mtoolkit" matlab
doesn't solve the problem, but making matlab use ubuntu's own java solves it.
Just launch matlab with

This means that everything is of the wrong proportions, as 1024x768 is
4:3 and 1280x1024 is 5:4. The circular Ubuntu logo looks squashed like
an egg.
