I have found the setting that was responsible for this behaviour : in
compiz settings / general options / desktop size, I had :
horizontal virtual size : 4
vertical virtual size : 1
number of desktops : 4< here is the culprit
Setting number of desktop to 1 avoids the bug.

Open up CompizConfig Settings Manager, choose Preferences from the left
side, there is a Reset to defaults button.

I didn't experience the problems you mention regarding resolution.
But I must admit I have fairly standard 1280x800 laptop screen (widescreen
however).

The package_exists()-function is not used in bughelper. bugnumbers and
py-lp-bugs anymore. If a package/project does not exist in LP py-lp-bugs
is unable to open the generated url and will raise a LPUrlError.

the gnome-appearance-properties control panel tool. I can add wallpapers
to the list of wallpapers, but cannot actually change it.
