I have a similar problem and setup, but there is no way for me to
control the muting it seems from the audio control. lspci gives me this
setup:

Here is the dmesg for Gutsy Tribe 4. There doesn't seem to have any
problem in it (no "abnormal..." things), no error, but the connected
hard drive is not found by the installer.

Let's focus on understanding the very root of the kernel problem (the
"piix" problem) so that it can be properly fixed in Gutsy before

There is a german 'umlaut' in line 421 in the incoming.py script which forced
my AVM PCI-ISDN card to hangup the incoming call.
Remove the umlaut or insert:
