I tried today's daily build so I could report on trying out the echo -1
. . . test on the USB scanner I have.
The problem is, while I can boot other ISO Linux CDROMs, this one boos
so far and then stops at a light earth-tone (light orange-tan?) screen.

Yes, hal-cups-utils just like system-config-printer are not installed by

I had a similar problem on my Dell Inspiron 8600 and ipw2100.
I resolved it like so:
workingversion=2.6.20-15-lowlatency
brokenversion=2.6.19-4-generic
mkdir -p /lib/firmware/$brokenversion/firmware
cp -a /lib/firmware/$workingversion/firmware/ipw2100-1.3.fw
/lib/firmware/$brokenversion/firmwa
Oh, and I should mention that I did this first...
# rmmod ipw2100
(obviously in your case it would be ipw2200)
...and that I did this after the above...
# modprobe ipw2100
...and that the message "Unable to load firmware:" did not occur, which
told me that it had in fact found the firmware.

Every time dell 700 laptop resumes from suspending to ram, an error message
pops up saying " your system failed to suspend". Actually it seems that the
laptop works just fine. I did " dmesg“ and find the following error message:

Are the versions for the dependencies strict? Does emacs22 really
require libasound > 1.0.14, and can't work with 1.0.13? The reason I ask
is because I, like most people, am running feisty and ideally would like
emacs22 to appear in feisty-backports (If emacs isn't a candidate for
