Starting a new login only works correctly on the console

I decided to try anyway. I accidentally first still used the old
2.6.22-6-generic package, and
saw hangs. Using 2.6.22-8-386 worked, so I assume it really is a fixed package.

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

Okay, aMSN is working now for me, after performing an upgrade through
the update manager (i'd been hitting cancel when it wanted to perform a
partial upgrade, then updating manually - there must be a difference...)

"new partition size" is a total ambiguity. I didn't see the ambiguity
until reading this bug report. I just took it to mean "size of the new
partition" and was pissed when it resized the old partition to that
size, not the new one.
Please label it:
