resizes itself over and over many times per second. I first saw this in
Firefox (File -> Save Page As), but can reproduce it in other GTK apps

Unfortunately I don't know when it was fixed as it's not actually
something that I need to do anymore (not sharing a computer). Just
tested it yesterday to make sure it wasn't still a problem after

/usr/lib/python2.5/Site.py has been patched as follows:

I was wrong Alan. :)
Have you tried to install the hal on backports? With it nautilus shows
'unmount' instead of eject and it works well. Nevertheless the updates
on backports broke stuff on my MacBook (brightness control at least) but
on my desktop this issue seems to be solved.
