I can confirm. I've had this problem for a while - in Kubuntu edgy and
now feisty.
Its only when playing music however. Text displays correctly when doing

Hi,
Same problem: sound recorder grays out the bar, Skype cannot record, but
I could when I was on Windows XP. I read various reports on alsamixer.
After starting alsamixer, I press Tab once to get to Capture mode. I
used the arrow keys to navigate to Capture, and set the volume to 100.

So has anyone gotten logs working? Having no logs to investigate server
problems is proving crippling, and I'm thinking I'll have to either
switch to glassfish or install tomcat manually from apache sources.

Found a 'workaround' for the missing logs.
If I delete catalina.out and recreate as a normal file, the logs get
written there. Of course, there is no log rotation, but at least I can
get the information I need until this issue gets a proper fix.

doesn't automatically install openoffice.org-style package :(
I just tested this - I installed openoffice.org package (on Ubuntu Server with
IceWM Window Manager installed) with Synaptic and now I have openoffice.org
The patch should be provided by official repos, as mentioned on Timo's
changelog...
