I think that I'm in the same boat as Chad, and haven't been able to get
dmraid working with my Raid5 array. When I run `dmraid -ay` I get the

You know... I'm getting more and more convinced the problem is with
moc's output code. I am unable to recreate the issue in any other
application. It IS possble that the newer alsa-lib exposed an underlying
bug in the moc alsa playback code. For what it's worth, moc with OSS
output appears to work

This appears to only be a problem with the dapper-backport.
At least I only have /etc/checkinstallrc in Ubuntu Feisty.
However, the dapper-backports checkinstall package (see
http://packages.ubuntu.com/dapper-backports/admin/checkinstall) does not
contain /etc/checkinstall.

I have (nearly) the same problem on an amd64 machine. I do not get a
crash but the vm is hanging exactly at the point where the boot loader
should be displayed. Running the image with qemu works, running not
ubuntu images (e.g knoppix) works, too.

yes, the patchs you refer seems to be more appropiate (and adds force feedback
too). The one i did was just to getting the things work, not came exactly from
