When xserver-xorg-video-intel is installed the X server still appears to start
(the screen goes black and I can hear the startup sound), but no output is
produced on the screen.
I should probably mention that I am using DVI output (via ADD2 card), so
possibly the driver incorrectly selects VGA o

I just tried changing the HorizSync and VertRefresh and that didn't fix
it. dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg didn't work either I tried
accepting defaults or changing some of the parameters, to no avail...
I am on a Dell 6400 core 2 duo with an x1400 card trying to install
Feisty x64. My native
I got it to work on my Powerbook G4 Titanium with an ATI Mobility M3 AGP2x,
where I encountered similar issues:

blank screen (the login sound worked though;)

The update-grub man page gives the depricated location of /sbin/update-
grub. I reported this in bug #107741, but someone felt this was a

i too have the exact same issue and thats with the feisty final release
kernel.
my laptop is an asus z96f with Intel cpu and chipset.
the basic problem seems to surround the following dmesg and syslog

I don't know if this can help, but in my case, using the Feisty x86 live
CD (as opposed to x64, both downloaded this morning), the x server does
launch properly, but the display is extremely slow and it ends up
freezing after a while.

I've downloaded another album from Jamendo, which again contained this
readme files and was able to reproduce this error.
It consists of two bugs, possibly related:
1. These plain text documents are flagged as 'import errors'. The
specific error I get is: "This stream is of a different type than

It's alright. It's just that I assign the bug to myself when I set
"Needs Info" so that I can go back and quickly find it. But, I'm not
the guy who will actually be able to fix it, so if it is set to
"confirmed" and still assigned to me, then someone might get confused

- use update-manager to upgrade to feisty
- no other processes
- 1G of RAM
