If you mean using a scrollwheel, I don't have one of those (I use a
laptop). And even if I did, I could do exactly the same thing in the
actual scrollable area, e.g. the document, as in the scrollbar itself.
So using a scrollwheel doesn't really count as "using" the scrollbar.

Turned out to be the nVIDIA drivers incorrectly installed - don't know
why. Uninstalled them, and then reinstalled them, everything works.
Something to do with improper OpenGL/GLX setup.

Rolling back to 0.3.3 is not an option for me, because my environment
requires the 'vendor' option which is introduced in 0.4.0.
Compiling 0.4.0 from source solves the problem for me.

Using the gui, you can get a non-locked session on another tty if you
use the panel applet "fast-user-switch-applet", which has an option to
"switch users" without locking. (This option is in the Preferences of
the applet.) I will confess that fast-user-switch-applet is in universe,
not in main.

While upgrading from Edgy to Feisty F-PROT failed to upgrade (I guess
