#'ed the nis parts in /etc/passwd & /etc/group

sudo doesn't pass on the X authority values needed to run software-
properties-kde. Using kdesu should fix this issue, but I agree it would
be nice for sudo to work too.

The noise that is being described sounds just like a disk-head being
parked (these are the same laptop drives that say "drive may rattle,
this is normal" on the label), and I'd be more worried if it /wasn't/
hasn't the disk-heads. It's quite satisfying to know that the heads
have been 'clicked' in
