The applet began reporting 0MHz after I dist-upgraded yesterday (the

As far as I can see, the two bugs that are mentioned are open. If you
like to get them fixed in a particular release you might want to
nominate them for that release.
I don't think the bugs are ignored, there are just more bugs reported
