Oh yeah, forgot to tell that even though the updater crashed the system
remained stable, I rebooted manually and at the very least it seemed to work.
After the reboot I saw a new boot screen and a couple of differences. Not sure
whether everything was updated as needed.

I used this command to get a strace dump: 'strace xsane 2&> dump.txt'
If it hangs you have to kill the process, otherways it will continue to write
to the dump file.

hmm, i got rid of my test user before and now it won't let me add a new
user (i add it, but then when i logout and try to log in under the new
user, it won't let me, i log back in under my normal login and see the

I get the exact same error message in Mandrive One LiveCD 2007.1
This this is either a hardware issue (in which case, I apologise for
wasting time and bandwidth) or a kernel issue.
Interestingly, the mt352_read_register error message appears in the same
place (when I modprobe the dvb-bt8xx module
ok, the kernel modules build fine using module-assistant. wonderful!
