I recently updated a Dapper installation to Edgy using the recommended
"gksu update-manager -c" procedure. On booting into Edgy, it failed to
the "enter root password to repair" prompt, obviously a bad message for
Ubuntu to show a newbie since root isn't supposed to have a password.

The problem was with a single file that appeared to be corrupt. Other aac
files from the same source work okay in both gtkpod and rythmbox. I can't
re-download the 'corrupt' file as their site is a pain in the ***.
I think this just needs an error trap when a file is corrupt.

time, so avahi-autoipd is running on the one not used.

Since it works with new user I have removed the session manager entry
in my own profile, started openoffice and activated the quikckstarter
again. After that it works fine. Maybe you have some old autostart
openoffice entries. But this has nothing to do with this bug.

I had a USB flash drive plugged in to my PC when I booted and Grub gave
me error 17. After spending a little while trying to figure out what
was wrong, I finally realized that the flash drive was confusing Grub.

I had a new edgy installation and upgraded it to feisty. I think this
should be fixed for users who don't have this workaround or where it
doesn't work. Perhaps update-manager should handle this. My problem is,
that after the upgrade from ooffice 2.2m... to oo2.2 final, it doesn't
write to session

Looking in your dmesg log it appears that it is attempting to connect to
the wrong ESSID - "Linking with UVSC-Wireles". As you can see an 's' is
getting truncated. Please add an extra character to the ESSID name to
see if that resolves the issue. This may be the same bug as bug 74672.

Same for me, with edgy my WiFi connection to a router was auto enabled
at startup, which permitted me to do connection sharing to another PC.
Even more, in feisty knetworkmanager seems unable to initiate dhclient
when i try to connect it to this network (which is BTW unencrypted).

which should save and restore the WPA-EAP password correctly. I would

I'm having the same problem on my Averatec 2460 laptop. Adding
acpi=noirq doesn't help. I'm now running Gentoo with 8139too in PIO
mode, recompiling the kernel with 8319too in MMIO mode gives me an
unbootable system. Any changes that this gets fixed? I wasn't able to
install any of the last 3 Ubunt

Unfortunately acpi=noirq doesn't help. I'm trying to resolve this bug
for months now, in fact since Ubuntu 6.04, and NOTHING helps. Running
Gentoo with a custom kernel and 8139too in PIO mode works flawlessly
though - but I want Ubuntu back! Any chances to get this fixed for
Feisty?
