I installed ubuntu 7.04 beta through the alternate-CD. I checked the CD
for defects beforehand & it went smoothly. I installed the system & everything
booted normally. Now I checked with sources to update, with the Indian server
it doesn't download the packa
I also have the same chipset (geforce4 go 440) on a Dell Inspiron 8200,
and it's detected by restricted-manager who proposes nvidia-legacy (only
7xxx, that has a bug on my system, but that's another bug report).

I don't know what broke my sound-output in the other installation, but
now, after i installed feisty again and update, upgraded and dist-
upgraded it, sound works propper again with the 2.6.20-13-generic

Yes, the HPLIP Toolbox 1.7.3 recommends the correct drivers. Driver
recommendation is working fine with HPLIP 1.7.3 in my case, that is the

I'm pretty sure this is related to lib-ata and the JMicron® JMB363 PATA
and SATA controller on this motherboard. Get the daily ISO from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ on Monday 4/2, burn it to

I've used both drivers from ATI and the open source radeon driver, with similar
results for power.
So unless ATI makes their proprietary linux driver worse than the xp one, that
might not be the issue.

The boot loader installed on your system should be grub. To enter grub
you need to press escape quickly when the system is booting up. Then
you will want to edit the default kernel boot options. You can do this

I think this is a duplicate of Bug #75753.
Short term solution (works as long as you don't reboot) could be to fix
the file permissions:
1) sudo chgrp cdrom /dev/sg*
2) sudo chgrp cdrom /dev/cd*
3) sudo chgrp cdrom /dev/scd*
For long term solution I refer to the above bug to change the settin

Currently there is no way to zoom a backdrop image just enough that it
fills the whole screen, but no more than that. The only modes that fill
the whole screen are stretch (doesn't retain the aspect ratio) and tile
(doesn't scale the image).
