To prevent it happening on next login, kill nautilus start xfdesktop4 and make
sure save session is set on logout.

Actually I only uninstalled the headers after trying with them. the indatll
failed during configuration. When I tried to configure the player myself it
died. But just in case I was misremembering I tried again this morning. I
uninstalled vmware player and then attempted to reinstall it using apt-ge
no i am not under a proxy server

an example, search for man:xorg.conf in the search bar and scroll down
to:

which is supposed to read:

When creating a file in Nautilus 2.14.3 (Dapper) permissions are not updated as
per the umask setting defined in /etc/profile. When umask is changed from
default 022 to 002 this should give the group write access with file
permissions of 664, but Nautilus maintains file permissions of 600. Thi
