I hadn't even thought of running it as root, how silly (and total noob
giveaway) of me. I tried kdesu democracyplayer (running Kubuntu) and at
least it ran the setup tool - but it also crashed as the player tried to

Ooops - I'm sorry but the above patch does not work as expected, since
grep finds itself allways. Here a fixed version:
Change
if [ -z "$DISPLAY" ] && ! pidof usplash >/dev/null; then
to
if ! ps -Ao comm,command | grep -q "^X.* vt$(fgconsole) " &&
! pidof usplash >/dev/nul
then you didn't use all the patches from the Ubuntu version and using
"make install" will confuse the packaging system and is likely to create
bugs on upgrade for example

I have an HP pavilion dv2000z with the same audio chip. The problem was
fixed in kernel 2.6.20-10 on feisty but came back in the kernel
revisions after that

I have to compile the module from dvb repository myself, too with my HVR1300
(cx88 chipset) card. This module is in the v4l-dvb development tree since
approx minimum 6 month.
Would be nice if the dvb modules could be updated. Also in feisty they are not
integrated yet.

I confirm this, running feisty with all updates (2007-03-20). Though in
my system is no scsi-controller, harddisk and dvd-drive are seen as sd*.
Everything seems to work fine, but I'm a bit confused about this. Is
this intended behavoir?
