I had the proprietary drivers installed with the Nvidia Instaler (from Nvidia
website). But, after the day 15 updates, the "Desktop Manager" only works if I
activate the drivers via estricted-manager.

The problem seem(ed) to be that '/target/initrd.img' is not writable. What is
"/target" anyway? Have you replaced e.g. "/dev/xxx" here?
What filesystem has "/target"? Maybe it could only get mounted readonly by the
installer.

More than likely 3c59x or yenta isn't playing nicely with shared
