How can it not be a major problem to be missing the player kernel
modules for your current kernel?
Why should the player setup succeed when in reality something is broken

I've been running a clean install of Fiesty for several weeks now. The
first kernel version I have installed is 2.6.20-6. The other day I
performed an "apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade". This installed a
new version of the kernel. The new version was 2.6.20-10-generic.
When custom kernel modules are built they should Provides: vmware-
player-kernel-modules. Just having the source installed doesn't mean
that the binary modules have been built.

this happens if you try to have two sessions on the same display.
Most probably another session was already active when you tried to start a new
one (on the same display).
You can check if the server is already running by asking for a process list (ps
-A). You will see something like Xorg (

There is something going on with rt2570. I found this on my own system.
rt2570 and rt73 were loading at the same time. So I blacklisted rt2570
as I knew rt73 worked for my wifi. I decided today to do a little bit

dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg returned me the same results as
dpkg-reconfigure WITHOUT -phigh option.
By the way, i'll retry in a few minutes.
I'm not so pratice in linux, so if you need some logs or other things

Hmm, I couldn't figure out how to start a console on the live-CD, it seems as
those are not enabled. And thus, I was not able to change X settings on the fly
and test new ones. But back on the amd64 installation, I tried out beryl again
