Saving temporary files elsewhere just relocates the problem - users
still won't know where they've saved the file.
Preventing edited files in /tmp/being deleted is (afaik) impossible
because you can't easily distinguish them from regular temporary files

note that just executing stuff from there wont give you the same
environment variables as adding the app to the STARTUP variable to have
it executed by the ssh-agent session that also runs dbus

The Adobe Acrobat Reader can read the attachments.
Evince actually already has an 'Attachments' item greyed out in it's
Sidebar. It's even a HIG violation to have menuitems greyed-out while
not implemented.
I'm using Ubuntu Edgy with Evince 0.8.0 (from Feisty) backported to it.

"DEB_DH_STRIP_ARGS := --dbg-package=libpanel-applet2-0" which makes
gnu_debuglink not being used: "dh_strip debug symbol extraction: not
