OK, it is fixed now. It might have been something in .local, but I am not
totally convinced that the reason for the bug (?) was very specific to my
configuration. Anyway, since I can't reproduce it now, this bug can probably be
closed?

I have a Asus P5B-E Plus with a C2D E6300, SATA HDD and the same issue here.
No boot with herd 4 and 5 (amd64 version), same messages as hanocri and
no solution..

I found the problem of "who", but not exactly "why". For some reason
the "who" is my CD went bad. Now "why" a CD can gradually go south is

I would say xcb definitely is to blame. I booted up Herd 4, ran "sudo
apt-get update", "sudo apt-get install libx11-6", and libxcb-xlib0 and
libxcb1 were installed as new packages. Upon restarting gdm, I could see
the sluggishness present.

I just found out that I can revive the display by pressing Fn-F8
(CRT/LCD) after opening the lid. I can then enter my screensaver

Today I upgraded to gksu 2.0.0-1ubuntu3 and there cames new features. So
now I can chose if and where the password should be safed. This is nice
but it does not work. When I type in a password, the password form comes
again without a error message. W

I had a weird thing happening that I cannot explain, I just can describe

Okay, closing again. I still don’t think that’s the proper fix, though;
even if update-grub can DTRT, it’s confusing to _humans_ that
vmlinuz-2.6.20-9-generic is a normal kernel and vmlinuz-2.6.19-4-generic
is a xen kernel (and this will cause “real” problems when the xen kernel
is upgraded to 2.6

Herd 5 is the first test I have done with Fiesty.
