Hi,
After some troubleshooting I have identified the precise source of this
sluggishness. When I downgraded xserver-xorg-core sluggishness
persisted, so I experimented with downgrading other packages
selectively, and found the problem to be with libx11-6 (1.1.1-1ubuntu1).
After downgrading to vers
I'm now quite convinced that these horrible crashes were the result of the swap
partition becoming unstuck.
Computer performance had been slow and error prone, then I noticed my swap
partition wasn't being used. Even after using mkswap the correct links weren't
made in /dev/disk/by-uuid, after

Thanks for the info John & Alexander. I will relay this on to the guys
on AnandTech who are also having the same crash issue. I think I'm
going to give Feisty a try on my personal laptop and see how it goes.

Sorry for such a long response on this bug Feisty Herd 5 is still
corrupting the display. DPMS seems to be the problem. How can I help
get this resolved and fixed upstream? Its got to be either some bug
