With xorg just after 7.2 RC release and line acceleration disabled
Radeon 9250 is stable.
Looks like the line acceleration is broken and causes most of the
lockups.

Well. I can't test it ;-), but your analysis seems correct from looking
at the code... You want to be running the "server-bigiron" i386 kernel,
which has CONFIG_HIGHMEM_64G enabled, and should work a little better.

Slapd should be start earlier than gdm - so if gdm starts at sequnce
number 13, slapd should be at least 12.
Also, /etc/libnss_ldap.conf should be readable by everybody (in dapper
