I have experienced similar crash today on Kubuntu Feisty (up-to-date).
I got the crash when I have clicked on linuxprinting.org-ppds package and then
on Details button. See attached stack trace.

There seems to be some support in firefox for using it with sudo, so
maybe you could use sudo to change the uid, since that seems to be the

In feisty the gaim extendedprefs plugin, even if installed, is disabled
and can't be enabled because, it says, "you are using gtk-gaim but this
plugin requires gtk"
