I don't know if this is exactly the same problem, but when running
gparted on the feisty herd 3, it mounted the disks as it's working on
them too. Also, unmounting through the gparted interface simply leads to
gnome remounting them.

I updated kubuntu-default-settings, all the root directories are visible
now. I hadn't modified any of the .hidden items so all was default in
that regard.

With usplash version 0.4-35, X does not work on my Thinkpad X40 (intel graphics
adapter). Neither with the vesa driver nor the i810 driver. The last line in my
Xorg.log is:

Without the kvm-intel module, everything works (albeit slow).
This is on a C2D 6600 (2.4 GHz).
The oops happens exactly when the installation switches from the splash
screen to the installer screen.

I happened to run cdcheck too when testing 20070201 alternate amd64
(because it was missing md5 info) and it worked ok.
If you check the desktop, please use the Herd3 one.

DISPLAY. A cookie issue?

Confirming it for Herd3 amd64 live, which is identical to 20070201.2 (in
vmware)
There is a bug about a herd3 candidates' alternate cd checking that
leads to crash, maybe these two are related.
