The Driver "ati" drivers actually differ from Driver "fglrx". One is
open-source(ati) and one is proprietary. I would suggest attempting to
install the proprietary ones to see if that corrects it.

I've found that this also affects 2.6.15-generic and 2.6.17-server.
but when I compiled my own kernel (2.6.20-rc5) using the -386 config, but
changing arch and including SMP support (and some minor other options) The
computer booted.

Ubuntu 6.10, x86, gedit 2.16.1
gedit doesn't close binary files properly. I tried to open (drag and
drop) files from mounted CDROM in gedit. gedit warned me that it cannot
detect character encoding, it offered some character sets. I selected
CANCEL
When you will not chose CANCEL but RETRY, gedit will open file several
times. vmlinuz in my list:

I appreciate the gravity of your situation and that you find this
inconvienent. However, it is not a bug but a feature request and as such
you should treat it as one. If you strongly desire to have such a
feature implemented submit a specification for it.

I'm sorry I wasted your time. When I tried to install it and send the files
after it crashed, it didn't crash an the installation worked. But thanks
anyway. I'll attach those files if it will be of help in the future.

I installed Kubuntu 6.10 again, and the installer worked perfectly. I
partitioned manually, and GRUB said it would be installed on hd0, the
