Confirming. I have a 2668-W12 (AC97 sound card) and have the same issue
- I can change the volume and mute/unmute various mixers, but no sound
comes from the external speakers or the headphone jack.
I had no such problems with 2.6.20-4, though.

The problem seems to be (at least) the path where xfonts-base is
installed:
There is no (at least I dont' have) these directories:

I do have /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc and I myself have fixed the

I can confirm the issues with Ralink/rt2500 based cards on Ubuntu 6.10.
The reason is that 6.10 is shipped with a faulty driver that causes

Hi, I'm the author of the upstream alt-f6 code. It does actually use the
X window's "group" property. It appears to me that the problem is that
multiple gnome-terminals don't have the same "group" property as one
another. You can add the debugging statement below to demonstrate this.

Where are you getting these file lists? I have downloaded the deb
packages you referred to, and checked them. All seems to be ok as far as
I can see.

The upgrade didn't complete properly afterall.
When re-booting to what I thought would be 6.10, a dialog box came up
with the message:
"Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely
that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server

It seems I experienced the same problem: mono crashes after logging in
on Ubuntu 6.10 edgy. I'm running beagle. Attached is the complete crash
report generated.

Ok, I'd say packages.ubuntu.com is out of date. I have just checked
there myself, and it doesn't even list all the architectures for 1.19.
I doubly made sure everything was correct, by downloading the debs both
through Launchpad, and from archive.ubuntu.com, and unpacked them. All
looks in order.
